This was "Just a Proposal", but was probably just a dream too far.
Green Belt Relay – London Olympic Run 2012
This would be a dream, to take part in one of the greatest relay runs ever – to start and finish in the Olympic Park. A weekend where others can be involved in their own way - schools, communities, sports clubs, businesses, local councils and much, much more. Support runners as they pass through London and the Home Counties, and give communities the opportunity to organise their own events. Watch the relay unfold over 2 days on TV, watch their own events and hear the sums of money raised for local sports and charities. This can be a London Wide Marathon, a celebration of 2012, but almost 200 miles longer than a marathon and over one of the most historical routes ever put together.
This all may not happen (I really hope it does as it will be an opportunity lost), but is possibly one of the best ways to take London 2012 to the people, make money for good causes, get many involved and leave a legacy for all to enjoy.
As well as joining up the Olympic Park with other 2012 Venues such as Dorney Lake and the Lee Valley White Water Centre, this is an historical footpath, a National Trail, an education of why London has become such a great capital city and why its people should be so proud.
Everyone can read the history of the route of the legacy walk for free at www.greenbeltrelay.org.uk/route1.htm. There is also so much more potential here, with environmental issues; with the great work being done in London and around our green belt which we never often hear about; an increase in tourism, plus the health, well-being & feeling good factors it will provide.
Please support the project and let’s do something very unique. Let’s watch the happy faces of children and others as they realise London 2012 is not just something to be watched on TV, not just something only open to the elite, but also something to inspire our younger generation by giving them the opportunity to be a part of it.
