RULES for GBR2008 1. The emphasis of the relay is teams of 11 runners each running a leg each day, exceptions are listed below. An
estimated start time for each leg will be given in advance and all runners in a leg
have to be on the start line at least 15 minutes before this for a "role
call" and safety briefing. 4. If a runner is unable to run a leg, another
member of the team may run the leg with no penalty.
However, if this happens on Day 1, and the substituted runner does not run on day 1 and
runs on day 2, then this runner will not qualify for stage prizes or records. The team will not be penalised and will still
qualify for team prizes and team records. 5. Each team will be given two
sets of fifteen numbers. Teams
must register giving a list of runners and
their allotted numbers before the start of the relay. You
can declare a maximum of 15 runners, but only 11 are allowed to run. 6.
Teams may accompany their runners on bike or foot. However, in the spirit of the relay,
this should not be done so that a runner is given an advantage. 8.
All teams must abide by the Law and the Highway Code. 9.
Teams should look after their runners and ensure they are dropped off at the start of,
supported during (i.e. water, directions, etc.) and picked up at the end of each leg. Teams are advised to have First Aiders and First
Aid Kit at hand. (It is the responsibility of each
team to make sure their runner is looked after, and does not get lost). 10. A team's total time is cumulative time of
their runners over the 22 legs. Any team that
is disqualified for prizes and team records through the rules will have their times
recorded in the results, but below those who have abided by these rules. 11.
The organisers accept no liability for injury, loss or damage to any person or property. 12.
Failure to abide by the rules may result in a penalty.
This penalty will be decided by the organising committee. In
accepting entry to the Relay, teams automatically agree to abide by the rules. Clarification of any of these rules can be done
through the organising committee. The
relay encourages good sportsmanship amongst teams. This means good fair competition at the
same time looking after and supporting others, giving them water and ensuring
everyones safety. We want the relay to
be an enjoyable and friendly event, and for this reason there will be an award for friendliest
/ most supportive team or club (the organising club will not qualify for this award). All
competitors will be given a race t-shirt. With stage winners
given stage winners t-shirts (male and female). Extra notes for teams - Green Belt Relay 2008 Shortly before the relay, there will be a meeting of the organising committee and representative(s) of each team, at the Hawker Centre in Ham, to discuss the above rules and other issues about the relay. Any points raised at this meeting will be noted and later considered by the organising committee. We will try and make it as easy as possible for runners to complete their leg without going off course. However, we will be limited by the number of marshals / helpers and thus the onus is on individual runners not to get lost / go off course. There will not be a lead and back vehicle on each leg due to the nature of the course and the terrain. However, we do encourage clubs to accompany their runners by foot, bike or car. If you are using bikes we recommend mountain bikes. Would all cyclists and accompanying runners, please try to wear bright day-glow clothing Please study the route before running. If possible with a map at hand - we recommend either a 1 : 50 000 or 1 : 25 000 O.S. map (or even larger scale) If anyone from your club has time, it would be good to drive / run / cycle any part of the route. It is possible that any part of the route may be changed, up to and including on the date of the race. Please make use of the "traffic instructions" and changeover points maps - you'll find them very helpful and time saving. During and after the relay, we would be very thankful for any feedback you wish to give us. e.g. where we could improve; suggestions; errors in instructions / traffic instructions; what you liked or didn't like about the relay; alternative routes; alternative change-over points. The Prizes Tony Hopkins Award. (Perpetual) Best Age Graded Run Mike Hutchins Award. Oldest runner to complete 2 stages. Mark Critchlow Award. Runner to break course record by most. Most money raised for charity. Team Shield, plus individual awards. The Wissahickon Trophy For the team that collected the most money for charity. It has been paid for by Wissahickon Wanderers from Philadelphia.
